Analyzing the Challenges Faced by Printers in Adopting and Integrating New Technologies in North-West Nigeria: An Empirical Study
Abstract
The adoption and integration of new technologies in the printing industry are crucial for
enhancing productivity and competitiveness. This empirical study analyzes the challenges
faced by printers in North-West Nigeria in this regard. The study employs a mixed-methods
research design, encompassing both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with a
sample of 217 printers from the region. The findings reveal significant barriers including
financial constraints, lack of technical expertise, infrastructural deficiencies, and sociocultural resistance to change. Specifically, 78% of respondents identified high costs and
limited access to financial resources as major obstacles. Additionally, 72% highlighted the
lack of skilled labor, and 85% cited unreliable power supply and poor internet connectivity
as critical infrastructural challenges. Cultural resistance and a preference for traditional
methods were noted by 66% of respondents. The study recommends targeted financial
support mechanisms, comprehensive training programs, infrastructure improvements,
awareness campaigns, and supportive policy frameworks to address these challenges.
These recommendations aim to create an enabling environment for technological
advancement in the printing industry in North-West Nigeria. The study contributes to the
existing literature by providing specific insights into the regional barriers to technology
adoption and offering practical solutions to overcome these obstacles.
